Culturally Speaking #47 By Sarah Stodola ------------------------------------- John Stewart's satirical take on the American political system seems like a strange choice for Book of the Year. But there you have it, says Publisher's Weekly... * * * This website can help you refrain from indirectly supporting the Republican Party. It can also help you indirectly contribute to the Democratic Party. In other words, it tells you which retailers donate to which party. It's not right that politics is all about money, but until we can manage to change the rules, we're going to have to play by them. * * * Has Bob Dylan succumbed to the (horror of horror!) press junket??!?! * * *
I've been hoping that a blogger somewhere out there would get some pics of the vintage subway cars that are running on some lines, and some times, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the NYC subway... * * * Remember when Bush proposed to raise funding for the National Endowment for the Arts by $18 million? And remember when I said there must be a catch, even though $18 million really isn't all that much, relatively speaking? Well, the catch is that the $18 million only managed to be $2 million when push came to shove. * * *
* * * This
article suggests that kids should not be sheltered completely, or
else they won't be prepared for the world they'll inevitably have to face,
and I couldn't agree more. Click here for the last Culturally Speaking. --------------------------------------- Sarah Stodola is the Executive Editor of Me Three. She can be contacted here. © 2004 Me Three |
