11.19.04 Culturally Speaking #46 By Sarah Stodola -------------------------------------
I'm
not sure that this is particularly well-written, but nonetheless Gary
Indiana manages to give us a
glimpse of the East Village in the days before we all became unable
to afford to live there... * * * For the first time ever, books are not Amazon.com's primary source of sales (via MobyLives). * * * Some creep in the Alabama government is trying to ban all books that suggest -- explicitly or implicitly -- that homosexuality is acceptable. Secession, anyone? * * * A collection of Truman Capote's letters has just been released. * * *
* * * It's sadly appropriate that it takes the New York Times' only female columnist to point out that nightly news anchors are just like presidents: old, coifed, boring white men. CBS would do well to think of Diane Sawyer and become the first network to catch up with the times. * * * VCRs have gone the way of the eight track. * * * I must remind all readers to purchase a copy of the Me Three print journal...It's quite an entertaining read, if we do say so ourselves, with contributions from some really wonderful writers. It's about 75% fiction. Only $8. That's like 60 cents a story, which I have to say is some bang for your buck! * * * I
honestly have no idea what to make of this
Peter Tunney guy. He sounds like a resourceful homeless man
who happens to live in a three-level loft in Soho. Click here for the last Culturally Speaking. --------------------------------------- Sarah Stodola is the Executive Editor of Me Three. She can be contacted here. © 2004 Me Three |
